This behemoth of a coffee table was created from the base of a massive red oak tree trunk. Similar to a miner’s cut diamond, the trunk has been carved with flat surfaces all around and sits on five, peg legs carved from Bois D’arc.
Preserving integrity and quality
A single chainsaw cut runs from one side of the trunk all the way into the center of the table. This cut will allow the stump to remain stable over time as it continues to contract all the way around from loss of moisture. Japanese temples use a similar process to preserve the integrity of the wood used in their constructions.
